■What's the difference between Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger?
There are two kinds of Messenger from the Microsoft Corporation: One is Windows Messenger, the other is MSN Messenger. A person who has WindowsXP can use both Messenger series, but a person who uses the older Windows Series (e.g. 98/2000/Office) can use only MSN Messenger. This is the current situation of the Messenger series. When a person who has WindowXP talks to a person who has a different Windows series, the person who has WindowsXP should use MSN Messenger (because the older Windows series cannot support the Windows XP messenger. Microsoft says Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger can connect with each other, but in reality it doesn't work very well. If either person uses MSN Messenger, both should use MSN Messenger. Therefore please download the newest MSN Messenger from : http://messenger.msn.co.uk for the students who have only MSN Messenger. Once you have downloaded MSN Messenger, you can use it in generally the same way as Windows Messenger. But the one thing we have to be a bit careful of is how to start a conversation with MSN Messenger. On Windows Messenger, when you click"start camera", you can start a conversation with voice and picture straight away, but on MSN Messenger we have to start the picture and voice seperately. So you have to start the webcam and the other person accepts it and then that person starts the webcam and you accept, and then either one of you should start voice and either one accept it.

■Which Messenger should I use?
If you have WindowsXP and your student also has WindowsXP: you should use the Windows Messenger already installed in your computer. If you have WindowsXP and your student has another Windows series(98/2000/ME etc): then you need to download and use MSN Messenger in you lessons.
