Since EnglishEverywhere started as an online school we have conducted more than 500 interviews and meetings
with new teachers who are really trying to discover and learn all about
one-on-one online lessons. Some teachers can adjust their classroom teaching
experience to online teaching easily and quickly, However, most teachers
had never thought about what online teaching really is and they just brought
their classroom teaching style to online lessons. This resulted in many
students not feeling any benefit from taking online lessons with those
teachers.
The purpose of this eBook is not to recruit teachers to specific online schools. Our aim in creating
this eBook is to share the knowledge of online teaching to decrease the
number of unhappy teachers and frustrating lessons. We believe that this
eBook will also be beneficial for teachers who have already experienced
online lessons but who haven't been able to continue long term student-teacher
relationships because of various reasons, such as not having had enough
time to adapt their teaching style to the online environment. Difficult
situations can arise when there are disagreements in what students expect
from online lessons and what teachers actually do during their lessons.
In this eBook you'll learn basic knowledge about online teaching: optimum computer environment, software
to use, tips on essential teaching skills, working for an online school
or setting up independently, and fundamental things to remember for online
teaching. You'll be able to provide thoughtful and interesting online lessons
to students and can be confident about what to do and not do in your future
lessons.

I decided to turn to online teaching when I became pregnant with my daughter
last year. Being a bit of a technophobe, I was nervous about how to adapt
my classroom experience to the online environment. This book gave me a
lot of good practical tips about how to prepare and to make effective use
of my computer for online teaching. It also gave some invaluable ideas
about how to develop and maintain good relations with my online students.
I would recommend it as a very useful read for anyone considering turning
to online EFL teaching.

I have been teaching English online for more than two years. After reading
this ebook about Online Teaching, I changed my techniques. This ebook has
dramatically improved the way I teach English Online. My students noticed
it right away. One of my students told me Online learning is so much better
than learning the old-fashioned way (in a classroom).

I have been teaching in classrooms for about four years and recently I
decided to start thinking about teaching online but was not sure
if I would be skilled enough. I found your eBook on online
teaching to be informative, easy to read, and understandable
with some useful tips about what to do and not do in online lessons. I
particularly found Section 8 (on things to keep in mind when teaching online)
to be particularly useful as I can easily refer back to the tips given. I now feel confident that teaching online is something I can do and I look
forward to moving into this new style of teaching. Thank you.
